Why you don’t want your husband behind the camera | Cape Town Birth Photographer

My clients have told me they needed their husband holding their hand and involved, not fumbling with a camera.

The experience of welcoming a child into the world is not just important for the mother, but the father as well. Bonding happens in those first few moments for him too. Often a dad is so overwhelmed with emotion or shock or awe that he forgets to even take out the camera (that was my husband!).

Most mothers prefer that if she’s being attended to post delivery or there’s been an Caesarean, the father stays with the baby. She often misses all these little moments.

I discreetly, quietly, barely speaking a word pay attention to capture his reactions and experiences too. No asking for a pose (unless he wants to) or getting in the way of your private moments. Let him focus on you and the baby. This only happens once in his life. I’ll get the photos.
